Update Feb 10 : Kane was adopted!
Kane is a 10 month old male German Shepherd mix who is looking for a new home. He is currently loved by a person who has some life changing circumstances. “It breaks my heart, but I know the right thing for Kane is to find him a new family who will be able to give him more time and love than I am able”.
This is a super smart pup who learns new skills very quickly. He’s on the small side ~40 pounds. He goes to the dog park everyday if he doesn’t go to daycare. He LOVES other dogs, but isn’t the biggest fan of human strangers.
The perfect home for Kane would be someone with previous GSD or working dog experience and the time to spend teaching this nervous young dog more obedience and life skills. He is very high energy and does well when he is focused on a task, job or skill. He would do well in a home with another dog. Cats and small children should not be in the same home as Kane loves to chase small moving animals and could easily knock over a small child.
A good training program has already been started with Kane and its recommended that it be followed though with the new family. Kane has some resource guarding issues at home which led to an in home behavioral assessment and work has started on mat training to teach Kane how to settle himself during high distraction times. This is very easy to do and gives Kane a “job” to get what he wants. A greeting protocol at home for new people to meet him has also been implemented with good results so he is able to calmly meet people. Additionally, Kane has completed three courses at Dog’s Best Friend in Madison, WI. (Puppy kindergarten, Puppy 2 and Intermediate).
Kane is neutered, up to date on vaccinations and is Heartworm negative. He is located in Madison, WI.
