NorthStar WI was founded in 2013 by a few good dog rescue friends in Madison, WI. Specifically, German Shepherd Dogs, but with NorthStar, we wanted to broaden our range to include dogs of all mixes and sizes.
NorthStar WI is a 501c(3) non-profit charity and follows the guidelines of the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture’s Companion Animals division. Our state license number is 287061-DS.
Our rescue is comprised solely of volunteers and we do not have a shelter. Therefore, all dogs who come to NorthStar WI move in with and are fostered by our amazing volunteers. We make sure all of our rescues get their needed medical care and they are exposed to lots of great new experiences – which can include children, other dogs, cats and lots of every day opportunities.
We work with area shelters, animal control organizations and other rescues to bring dogs to our homes. We will help families needing to surrender dogs – but our first priority will always be to work with animal organizations where dogs have very limited time before they are euthanized.
The best thing you can do for rescue groups like NorthStar WI is to foster a dog. Next is to volunteer your time or consider a donation of money, we are are 501 c(3) .
