Update: Gus was adopted on January 17.
Gus is a 20lb adorable poodle/llaso mix male who is about 8 years old. He is settling in quite well in his foster home. He likes every person and dog that he meets. And he’s always ready for a belly rub. Gus was found along a city freeway and taken to a local shelter. The staff called the phone number on his microchip. The family said they would come for him, but they never did. Gus was taken into NorthStar rescue within minutes after his stray hold period was up. We couldn’t let this sweet guy stay in there even one more day.
He prefers to cuddle by his people but will go to his kennel. The perfect home for Gus would be a family looking for a great companion who will spend time with him and make him a part of the family’s life. He’s small enough to carry but big enough to hang with larger dogs without fear that he might get squished.
Gus has legions of fans in his few short weeks in his foster home. Everyone who meets him tell us he’s just the nicest dog. His groomer said his tail wagged the entire three hours he was there and he’s welcomed back any time.
Gus does require regular grooming and his new home must be committed to this. It’s vitally important to keep his facial hair well trimmed. Gus has what is called Chronic Dry Eye. It’s because there is so much hair on his face that it gets into his eyes. Unfortunately due to a lack of proper grooming in his previous life, Gus is now blind in his right eye due to excessive hair getting onto his eyes and drying out the tear ducts. This caused scaring of the cornea and hence the blindness. He can still see out of his left eye. He will need twice a day artificial tear eye drops that can be purchased over the counter. Gus is just fine with the eye drops as they feel soothing. The blindness doesn’t phase him in the least. He uses his superior sense of smell and hearing and the remaining sight in his left eye to amble along in life just fine.
Gus is neutered, UTD on vaccinations and ready to find his fur-ever home. Please apply today for this sweet dog.
